Imperani Peach Tree Fruited 20L

R590.00

Prunus persica (L.)

Imperani is generally sweet, with a high juice content.  They are firm with a fine, non-melting texture. The Imperani peach has a yellow flesh, their flavour can be strong and slightly more acidic than that of a white-fleshed peach, making it well-suited for culinary uses such as desserts, jams, and canning, as its texture holds up well during processing.   These peaches are a clingstone variety and are high in fiber and vitamin C.

Position

All stone fruit trees require full sun to produce fruits, and they need shelter from strong winds. They also require good-quality soil and efficient drainage. Peach trees require colder climates and do not do well in warm winter climates.

 Size

Peach trees can grow to approximately 8-10 meters. Plan the site before planting, keeping the tree a safe distance away from external walls, electrical lines, and other trees. Plant in a protected area if possible, as strong winds can damage branches and leaves.

Soil

Well-drained, fertile soil; avoid waterlogging. Dig a hole approximately twice as wide as the nursery bag and about the same depth as the root ball. Loosen the surrounding soil to encourage new root growth. Carefully remove the tree from its container without damaging the roots. If the roots are circling around the root ball, gently tease them apart to encourage outward growth.

Place the tree in the centre of the hole so that the top of the root ball sits level with or slightly above the surrounding soil. Do not bury the trunk or graft union. Refill the hole with the original soil, gently firming it around the roots to eliminate air pockets. Avoid adding excessive fertiliser directly into the planting hole.
Refill the hole with the original soil, with a bag of compost, gently firming it around the roots to eliminate air pockets.

Adding half a bag of our Volcanic Rock Dust (R25 per bag) and a bag of Superfrass (R25 per bag) will assist in rapid growth. They also protect the roots from being eaten by insects.

Watering

Water deeply immediately after planting to settle the soil around the roots. Continue watering regularly during the first growing season, especially during dry periods.

Too much water can cause root rot, but do not allow the roots to dry out completely.

Mulch

Use from 2 to 5 centimetres of pine bark mulch to protect the roots from UV damage and drying out. It retains moisture and maintains an optimal pH. Do not let the mulch touch the plant stem, as it may cause infection or rot.

Fertilising

Apply our slow-release all-plant fertiliser. Apply 1 teaspoon every 4 months. The roots will absorb what they need.

 Pruning

Pruning is crucial for peach trees to maintain their shape, promote airflow, and enhance fruit production. Prune during the dormant season to remove dead or diseased branches, improve sunlight penetration, and keep an open center shape. Thin out crowded branches to allow for better air circulation and reduce the risk of diseases.

 Pest and Disease Control

Aphids, citrus psylla, red scale, citrus greening. Spraying regularly with Agricultural Neem Oil or Effective Microorganisms (EM Control ) will assist in either prevention or after the fact. If you already have aphids or mites, wash the tree with a harsh hosing, and when dry, spray with Neem oil or EM Control.

Practice good garden hygiene (remove fallen fruit and leaves).

Watch for root rot (caused by overwatering) and fungal infections during wet periods.

Thinning Fruit

Thin fruit in early summer when they are small, to promote larger, healthier fruit and prevent branch breakage due to excessive weight.

 Harvesting

Imperani peaches are typically ready for harvest in the summer months. Harvest the fruit when it reaches its desired size, color, and firmness. Gently twist or lift the peach; it is ready to be picked if it easily detaches from the tree.
