Frequently Asked Questions

Depending on the plant, e.g. blueberries and cranberries require water daily in very hot weather, but goji berries and elderberries can be watered only three times a week in very hot weather. Our cherry tree must not be watered from the time the berries turn pink until after harvesting. Whereas a Guava tree only needs a good soaking once per month if it does not rain.

Some fruit trees do not require water in winter but most require just enough to keep their roots damp, but not waterlogged. Berry plants do require watering once or twice a week during winter.

Citrus trees do very well in large pots, minimum size ½ metre square. They will still give plenty of fruit for many years.

We recommend Talborne Organics fertilizers as they are not harmful to the environment and work extremely well. There are different ratio’s of fertilisers for different types of plants and trees – some require more nitrogen, other more potassium, etc.

The minimum size hole or pot for a small plant is 50cm wide and deep. Bigger trees naturally require a much larger pot. The bigger the better

In order to bring the pH of soil down from 7 to 4.5, our farmer recommends Lithuanian or Canadian Spaghnum Peat Moss. Over many years of trial and error, he believes that this peat moss is the most suitable. It is true that peat moss only grows 1cm per year but the bogs are constantly being revitalized to ensure that there is no shortage of peat moss.

Twenty or Forty percent shade netting is probably the only way to prevent birds, monkeys, pets, etc from eating the fruit. You can try tying muslin jewellery bags over each fruit as well.

We recommend a mixture of one tsp of Neem Oil, and a squirt of dishwashing liquid into 1 liter of water. Sprayed frequently (10 days – 2 weeks) onto the leaves of the plants, keep the bad pests at bay, and does not kill the good insects.
