Elderberry Plants like slightly acidic soil with a PH level between 5.5 – 7.0.
The tree grows to about 6m in height and makes a magnificent show in spring with masses of tiny white flowers that the birds and bees love. You can prune them to remain smaller if you do not have the space. They can also be planted in a large container.
Preferrably full sun but they tolerate partial shade.
They are the most versatile berries of all. Possibly the most used berry for medicinal purposes.
The stems, leaves, flowers and fruit of this cultivar are edible. It is the European Sambucus and not the American Elderberry which can be toxic.
Elderberry flowers are delicious fried in a batter or used with oils as a skin balm. The fruit is used to make wine, cordial, tea and the possibilities are endless.
Grow in very acidic, well drained soil with a PH level between 4.2 – 5.5. Grow in Canadian or Lithianian peat moss and pine needles/ bark mulch mix. Cold temperature tolerant. Full sun, but can tolerate partly shade.
In certain areas you can harvest Blueberries for up to 6-8 months of the year. They require a well drained, very acidic soil with high organic matter. The soil PH level should be between 4.2 and 5.2.
The Blueberry plants we sell are self pollinating but do yield more and bigger berries if cross pollinated with another cultivar.
