Jay’s Peach Ghost Scorpion in RS Pot

R125.00

SHU 800,000 to 1,000,000.

A cross between Moruga Scorpion and Ghost Pepper. The fruits of this plant are not just any fruits. They are heavily wrinkled, bumpy pods and often develop distinctive “scorpion tails.” They ripen from green to a peachy hue, which gives them their name, but the flavour isn’t peach-flavoured. It is slightly sweet with a floral, spectacular fruit flavour. This variety is a mystery waiting to unfold. It remains unstable, meaning traits such as pod shape, tail presence, and color can vary both within and between generations. As one seed merchant explains, each seed packet may produce somewhat unpredictable phenotypes.

Mature plants grow bushy, usually 1–1.5 m tall, and are quite productive with (5–9 cm) long pods.

Handle with extreme care—wear gloves when harvesting or slicing, and avoid touching your face or eyes during preparation. This plant demands respect.

These plants are currently planted in a 500g Root Stimulating pot to encourage root growth whilst they are still young.  They are, however, ready to be planted if desired. (See picture in product gallery).

Position

Chilli plants, being tender and heat-loving, thrive when they receive a minimum of 6 hours of direct sunlight each day. This knowledge will empower you to provide the ideal conditions for your chillies.

Choose a warm, sheltered position, especially if you live in a cooler climate.

Soil

Well-drained soil enriched with organic compost. We recommend using a bag of Superfras and volcanic rock dust when repotting a chilli plant for best results. Aim for a pH of 6.0–6.8 using a small amount of acid compost.

Watering

Chilli plants are very sensitive to waterlogging, although they require regular watering.

A good rule is to water when the top inch or two of soil feels dry to the touch.

Chilli plants lose water through pores in their leaves. This influences the amount of water their roots draw from the soil. In low-humidity conditions, plants risk wilting if water is lost from the leaves faster than it can be replaced by root absorption. If plants dry out too much, they may drop their flower buds.

Mulching

Add a thick layer of pine bark mulch, keeping it about 5 cms. away from the tree trunk (any closer may cause excess moisture and damage the trunk). Mulch helps retain soil moisture and prevents weeds.

Fertilizing

Apply one teaspoon every 4-5 months of our slow-release all-plant fertiliser. The roots will absorb what they need.

Pruning

Prune in winter (dormant season) to remove dead wood and shape the bush. Train as an open centre (vase shape) for good light penetration and air circulation.

Practice good garden hygiene (remove fallen fruit and leaves).

 Pests & Diseases

Aphids, red spider mites, grey mould, and fruit flies may damage or sting ripening fruit. To manage these problems, apply our EM Control. Inspect often and spray regularly to alleviate future issues.

Harvesting

Pick chillies when the pods are peach-coloured and the weather is still warm.  Regular picking will encourage the plants to produce more fruit.

You can harvest and eat immature chillies, but they may be milder in flavour.
