Jackfruit, also known as Jack Tree, is an exotic fruit which is native to South India. They are part of the Moraceae family which includes, fig, mulberry and breadfruit. Jackfruit is unique in the way that it is the largest tree fruit in the world which can reach up to 55kg in weight. Jackfruit has a spiky outer skin which is green or yellow. It has a sweet and juicy flavour which have been described as a combination of fruits including, apples, mangoes, bananas, and pineapples.
The most commonly consumed part of the jackfruit is the flesh, or otherwise fruit pods as this can be eaten when ripe or unripe. The seeds are also safe to eat as it can be added into sweet or savoury dishes, not excluding deserts and curries.
