Persimmons are sweet, firm fruits that are simply delicious. The Izu variety is from Asia and has a burnt-orange colour. It is about the same size as an apple or a peach, and resembles mini-pumpkins. Persimmons have very few seeds, if any at all, and are known for their honey flavour. Izu persimmons are non-astringent, which means that they aren’t as sweet as astringent ones and are best enjoyed firm.
This delectable fruit is packed with nutrients too. They’re high in fibre and contain vitamins A, B6, C, E, K; as well as potassium, manganese and copper. Persimmons contain antioxidants too. This tree is small but abundant in the fruit it yields. So, it is excellent for smaller gardens. It can even be grown in a big pot in your home (just remember to repot it in fresh soil every two or three years).
